Simon Bar Sinister
Back in the 1950s, Detroit had perhaps the best mass transit in the country, with dozens of privately run bus and streetcar companies competing for the public's $$$. It's been like 50 years of desolation...but finally, a private company's getting back in the game. Taking advantage of cuts in DDOT and Smart, the Detroit Bus Company is starting up on June 1st with two routes: a downtown/Corktown/Mexicantown loop and a downtown/RO/Ferndale run. There'll also be a downtown/Metro Airport run either starting at the same time or shortly thereafter. :D more info here: http://thedetroitbus.com
Troy Spiral (13)
Nice to see the attempt at more public transit. Would be nice if we had "real" pub transit in this area. I've been dreamin about decent public transit forever. Unfortunately the heavy auto-industry presence (and the overall lack of funds) I think will put the brakes on any "big" push for it for decades to come. =( We really need one unified system, even if all the various buses were more well funded, its confusing to your average person with all the overlapping systems.
